At Age 4, Do With Pride Has Become a Different Horse
Published: Sunday, September 29, 2019

For the first 12 starts of his career at ages two and three, Do With Pride posted one victory and two thirds with earnings of $13,380. Then he was given a seven-month break and he returned to action at Delaware Park on May 22 of this year; his transformation ever since has been eye-opening.

In that first start after his return, the 4-year-old First Dude gelding finished fifth, but, after his victory in a $54,875 allowance race at Delaware yesterday his record since has been 4-1-3 in nine tries with earnings of $90,990.

Do With Pride drew the No. 1 post with Mychel Sanchez in the race at a mile and 70 yards on the grass. Sanchez followed the pace along the rail down the backstretch and into the lane, then eased the gelding out to the middle of the course for the final eighth of a mile. From there, Do With Pride did the rest, inhaling the leaders late and winning by three-quarters of a length. His clocking of 1:39.79 was less than nine-tenths of a second off the course record.

With the victory, worth $32,400, Do With Pride became First Dude's latest $100,000 earner, jumping his bank account to $104,370 on a career record of 5-1-5 in 22 starts.
