Another Super Sunday: Three Winners for First Dude
Published: Monday, July 1, 2019

As Do With Pride was pounding down the stretch looking for his first victory of 2019 in the first race at Suffolk Downs yesterday, Much About It was just leaving the gate in the second race at Tampa Bay Downs. Less than two minutes later, First Dude had added two more winners to his ledger, courtesy of tracks enjoying abbreviated meetings.

With Erick Lopez riding, Do With Pride went wire-to-wire at 7 1/2 furlongs on the grass, winning by 2 1/2 lengths on the final day of the short, but lucrative Suffolk meeting. The gelding paid $34.80 for his first victory as a 4-year-old, which was worth $18,500.

Much About It, from the barn of Frank C. Calabrese, one of the leading owners in the country, scored her second victory of the year good for a payday of $7,850 on the first of just two days of mid-year racing to satisfy simulcasting requirements at the Oldsmar track. The 4-year-old filly bred by Steve Tucker came wide into the stretch with Jalon Samuel and drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths in the one-mile turf race.

Six races after Do With Pride won the first at Suffolk, Princess Victoria edged closer to the $200,000 mark in earnings with a victory at one mile over a sloppy track in a race that came off the grass. The 5-year-old mare had been idle for nearly five months, but she was able to out-game Ryoan after a head-and-head battle through the stretch, winning by a head and paying $7.40. The check for $24,500 raised her career earnings to $193,530 on a record of 6-4-4 in 29 starts.
