Arkansas-Bred Shoal Bay Rolls In Career Debut
Published: Friday, May 3, 2019

A rare Arkansas-bred gave First Dude winner No. 28 of 2019, as Shoal Bay broke his maiden in his career debut yesterday at Oaklawn Park. The 3-year-old colt bred by McDowell Farm, under strong handling by Jareth Loveberry, scored by 3 1/4 lengths in a $50,000 maiden claimer with a purse of $47,000. Shoal Bay earned a check for $28,200 for owner/trainer Ernie Witt, who purchased the colt for $20,000 at the 2018 OBS June sale.

Loveberry had the colt within striking distance down the backstretch, took him wide on the turn and into the stretch, and Shoal Bay was much the best down the lane. He covered six furlongs in 1:11.63 and paid $18.20.
