First Dude's runners have now made 600 visits to the winner's circle with the victory of Baby Ice in the eighth race at Gulfstream Park yesterday. The 6-year-old mare bred by Y-Lo Racing Stables has accounted for five of those visits, compiling a record of 5-4-4 in 26 career starts. ?
Talented apprentice rider Cristian Torres took over the reins on Baby Ice for the first time on Jan. 5 and picked up a second and a third in his first two tries aboard the mare. Then he guided her to a 2 1/4-length score on Feb. 20, and made it two straight in yesterday's 6 1/2-furlong race. Baby Ice sat fifth in the early going, made a five-wide move on the turn, and cruised past the leaders to win by one length, clocked in 1:18.02. She collected a check for $11,600 and raised her lifetime total to $102,825.
