After she posted a pair of seconds in three tries over the main track at Tampa Bay Downs, trainer Luis Carvajal Jr. entered Bahama Pearl in a $20,000 maiden special on the grass on Sunday. Rain caused the race to come off the grass, but it didn't deter the 3-year-old filly by Bahamian Squall, who went wire-to-wire with Antonio Gallardo to give her sophomore sire his third winner of 2020.
Leaving from the No. 3 post in the 5-furlong race, Bahama Pearl shot to the lead and never was threatened as she sped past the furlong markers in :22.29 and :45.79 en route to a 4 3/4-length score in :58.97. Sent off as the 9/5 favorite, she paid $5.80 and earned a check for $12,000, plus a breeder's award for Shade Tree Thoroughbreds and Joyce Corwin.
