Don Dizney's Bahamian Park broke his maiden yesterday with a front-running victory racing seven furlongs over the all-weather track at Woodbine, giving Bahamian Squall his seventh winner from just 10 starters in his first crop.
Bahamian Squall is the third-leading sire on Florida's freshman list with respect to both winners and money-earnings, and is 30th on the Blood-Horse's North American list. At 70 percent, the stallion by Gone West is the only sire in the top 35 whose winners-to-runners ratio is higher than 50 percent.
At odds of 8/5, Bahamian Park rushed to the lead from the No. 1 post under Jerome Lermyte and was immediately hooked by Breed's Hill. The two battled all the way to the turn, four or five lengths ahead of the field, then the Dizney colt sprinted away to a 3 1/4-length victory. He earned $19,500 in Canadian funds, which translates to $14,751 in the U. S.
