Call the Fire Department: First Dude Is Ablaze
Published: Friday, May 24, 2019

On the morning of May 11, a Saturday, First Dude was sitting on Florida's general sire list with 29 winners for 2019. But an explosion by his sons and daughters in the past two weeks has increased that number to 39. To be exact, First Dude has accounted for 10 winners in a span of 13 days.

His success has not been restricted to Florida, with just three winners achieved at Gulfstream Park, along with two each at Parx and Mountaineer, and one each at Thistledown, Golden Gate Fields and Camarero in Puerto Rico.

Is That Magic became No. 39 yesterday, the 4-year-old filly scoring her first victory of the year in a one-mile race at Gulfstream Park under Miguel Vasquez. She broke well from the No.1 post, sat comfortably on the rail three or four lengths behind the pacesetter, moved for the lead on the turn and drew off with ease, then held off the runner-up by three-quarters of a length. Is That Magic came into the race after posting three consecutive seconds and went off at 1/2, paying $3, while earning a check for $10,400.

With the victory, First Dude has opened a four-up lead on the winners' list among Florida's active sires.
