Dizney-Bred Ohtani Wins in 2nd Start for New Owners
Published: Wednesday, November 27, 2019

When Ohtani broke his maiden at Turf Paradise on Monday, he became First Dude's 70th winner of 2019 and ninth in the span of 17 days.

The 3-year-old gelding had raced in the Double Diamond colors for his first nine races before being sold to Seven Arms Stable and shipping to Arizona. He won in his second start for his new owners, a maiden optional claiming race at six furlongs.

With Glenn Corbett aboard, Ohtani sat fourth early as the pacesetters set blazing fractions of :21.66, :44.19 and :56.33. The gelding moved up to third on the turn, ran over the two leaders at the top of the stretch, then held off fast-closing Ridgeway to win by a nose. He was clocked in 1:09.34, paid $17, and collected $7,068 for his first score.
