Two More Winners, Two Seconds, Keep First Dude on Course
Published: Monday, August 19, 2019

First Dude had six runners competing at five tracks around the country on Sunday, and came away with two winners and a pair of second-place finishers, adding more than $51,000 to his 2019 earnings.

Much About It won at 1 1/16th miles on the grass at Gulfstream Park for her second victory in a row, boosting her record this year to 3-2-0 in six starts. The 4-year-old filly stalked the leaders in fourth place under Samy Camacho, moved wide for the stretch run and drew clear to prevail by one length; she had won her last at Tampa Bay Downs by 2 1/4. This one was worth $12,900.

At Arlington Park, What's Up Dude traveled along leisurely on the lead under Jose Lopez in an allowance optional claimer going a flat mile. At the top of the stretch, the 5-year-old Illinois-bred gelding was swarmed on from both sides and appeared to be in deep trouble. But he dug in gamely and left three challengers in his dust, drawing away in mid-stretch and going on to win by four lengths. The $28,560 winner's check raised his career total to $235,709 on a record of 7-5-2 in 25 starts.

First Dude's two second-place finishers were Baby Ice, who picked up $5,000 at Del Mar and King Dude of Ocala, who collected $4,200 at Monmouth Park.
