Dude's Sensational Saturday - Part I
Published: Sunday, May 26, 2019

First Dude has been hotter than the proverbial firecracker since getting this year's 30th winner on May 11. By Friday evening, he had raised that number to 40, as 11 of his sons and daughters visited the winners' circle in a span of 14 days. And the victories came at seven tracks.

Yesterday, on a sensational Saturday, Dude added two more winners, one a repeat, to give him 41 for the year, while raising the total number of tracks involved to nine. Also received was the latest news from Puerto Rico - another winner on Thursday - making it an unheard of 14 over the last 15 days. Could it be a record?

At Arlington Park, Illinois-bred What's Up Dude used a monster run through the stretch to win a $43,364 allowance race by a neck. Jose Lopez was aboard the 5-year-old gelding, who was favored in the six-furlong race at 8/5 after his recent second-place finish in the Gr. III Hanshin Stakes. What's Up Dude added $26,880 to his bank account, which jumped to $177,039 on a record of 5-5-2 in 22 starts.

Arizona Downs was the scene of a wire-to-wire score by Dude's Dude, who passed the furlong markers in :22.73 and :45.81 en route to a 2 1/4-length victory in 1:05.50 for the 5 1/2 furlongs. The 5-year-old ridgling bred by Mary Haire and trained by the aptly-named Robert A. Score is 2-2-0 in his last five tries.

In Puerto Rico, seven-pound bug boy Angel Diaz guided Forestmusicalwest to her second victory this year, a wire-to-wire score by 6 1/4 lengths. The 3-year-old filly opened up a five-length lead in the stretch and coasted to the wire, getting the seven furlongs in 1:25.02.
