El Potro Misses Track Record By One Second
Published: Friday, April 19, 2019

El Potro turned in one of the most impressive performances among First Dude's runners this year when he scored a two-length victory in a $29,736 allowance test at Penn National, missing the six-furlong track record by just one second.

With Ruben Silvera aboard, El Potro made it two victories in a row; he had hit the winner's circle at Parx Racing when scoring by 5 1/4 lengths on March 30. The 5-year-old gelding now sports a record of 7-3-2 in 34 starts, and the $16,800 winner's check raised his earnings to $106,230.

Silvera shot El Potro out of the gate and settled him into second place, stalking the pacesetter in the two path. Through blazing fractions of :21.65, :44.44 and 56.65, the gelding took the lead on the turn and held off the two favorites in the stretch, posting a final time of 1:09.48 while paying a generous $23.80.
