First Dude Closing in on Money Lead
Published: Saturday, August 10, 2019

First Dude has been Florida's leading sire with respect to number of 2019 winners and repeat winners for much of this season, and lately he's been widening the margins. When He's One Wild Dude won a $40,000 starter handicap at Laurel Park yesterday, it gave the son of Stephen Got Even 57 winners of 87 races. In addition, the $22,800 winner's check lifted First Dude's progeny earnings to $2,140,548, just $49,118 out of first place, narrowing that gap by about $250,000 in the past few months.

He's One Wild Dude sat a perfect trip with Victor Carrasco in third place early in the 1 1/8ths-mile race on the grass, went after the leaders on the final turn and proved to be best by one length. The 6-year-old gelding, who was bred by the late Wheelock Whitney Jr., former co-owner of the Minnesota Vikings, raised his earnings to $148,356 on a record of 7-4-7 in 30 starts, and he's 2-1-4 in his last seven.

First Dude is less than $93,000 away from reaching the $15 million mark in career earnings.
