First Dude Cruises Past $14 Million
Published: Sunday, June 2, 2019

About 2 1/2 hours before I'm An Ocala Dude scored a sharp victory in the eighth race at Monmouth Park yesterday, Petulant Delight finished second in the third at Parx Racing and collected a check for $5,200. That was more than enough to push First Dude over the $14 million mark in career progeny earnings. I'm An Ocala Dude's subsequent effort put an exclamation point on the productive afternoon, and First Dude wound up the day at $14,034,881, best among all Florida's active sires.

I'm An Ocala Dude sat a perfect stalking trip behind favored pacesetter Chateau in a $47,500 allowance optional claimer at six furlongs. Harry Hernandez sent the 4-year-old gelding after the 2-1 favorite on the turn, but Chateau looked unbeatable at the top of the stretch after setting sizzling fractions of :22.10 and:44.56. However, Hernandez never gave up, and I'm An Ocala Dude closed three lengths on Chateau from the eighth pole to the wire, getting up by a neck as the teletimer read 1:09.95.

It was the second victory in a row for the winner, who had taken his previous race at Aqueduct and is now 5-2-1 in 14 starts with earnings of $171,144.
