First Dude's Flora Dora Scores $100,000 Busanda Stakes Victory
Published: Monday, February 1, 2016

South Ozone Park, New York (January 31, 2016)--- Coffeepot Stable’s three-year-old filly, Flora Dora, took a big step on her trail to the Kentucky Oaks with a victory in the $100,000 Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct Sunday.

Tracking the pace, Flora Dora ranged up outside the leaders in the lane and got clear late, winning by 1 length over Scatooch. The early leader, Lost Raven, held third. Flora Dora, a Florida-bred daughter of Double Diamond stallion First Dude, ran 1 mile and 70 yards on the fast inner track in 1:45.40 with jockey Jose Ortiz in the irons.

An earlier winner of the My Dear Girl Division of the Florida Sire Stakes, Flora Dora then finished second in the Grade 3 Tempted and fourth in the Grade 2 Demoiselle, both at Aqueduct. The Busanda was her initial start of 2016 and her second victory in five lifetime starts. She has now earned $415,332.

Winning trainer Marialice Coffey said Flora Dora is targeted for the top.

"We're definitely looking forward to the Busher (on Feb. 27) and then after that we'll look to rack up the points and qualify for the Kentucky Oaks," she said.
