First Dude's Sunday - Two Runners, Two Winners
Published: Monday, June 10, 2019

After Undaunted was scratched out of the $75,000 Thirty Fish Stakes at Gulfstream Park and re-entered for Thursday, First Dude was left with just two runners nationwide yesterday - and both won handily.

Over a sloppy oval at Gulfstream, Osvaldo experienced a 'light bulb' race, coming through with an eye-opening performance under Jose Batista after the race scheduled for the grass was switched to one mile on the main track. After following the pack heading into the turn, Batista moved the 5-year-old gelding wide and Osvaldo responded with an explosive run, opening a lead of three lengths in the stretch, and coasting in the final sixteenth. Announcer Pete Aiello called it six lengths, but  the final margin was actually 9 1/4. He paid $33.20 and earned a check for $12,200.

Racing six furlongs at Canterbury Park, Williston Dude pressed the pace between horses after surviving a bumping incident leaving the gate, then took the lead entering the stretch and drew off to win by two lengths over the 3/10 favorite. The 6-year-old gelding earned $7,500 and raised his record to 4-3-5 in 24 starts. He's been in the top four in 16 of his last 18 races.

In his latest assault on the winner's circle, First Dude has had nine winners over the past 11 days.
