First Dude inched a little closer to the $1 million mark in 2020 progeny earnings with the victory of J's Flashy Halo in the second race at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday as the track in Oldsmar closed out the Florida fiscal year.
With Ronnie Allen Jr. aboard, the 5-year-old gelding became First Dude's Florida-leading 33rd winner this year racing 5 1/2 furlongs over the main track. He was off third from the No. 3 post and quickly took up a position on the rail. Coming to the turn, Allen sent him through as a hole opened on the inside and the gelding owned and bred by Janis Maitlen cruised to the lead while drifting to mid-track, drawing off in the stretch without a challenge to score by nearly three lengths, and paying $11.
J's Flashy Halo raised his record to 3-4-1 in 21 starts and earned a check for $6,180, lifting First Dude's progeny earnings to $932,534 for the year.
