Kat Dude Takes Short Route Home for Texas Maiden-Breaker
Published: Saturday, February 8, 2020

First Dude became the first active Florida stallion to reach 10 winners in the new season when Double Diamond-bred Kat Dude broke his maiden last night at Sam Houston Race Park in his fourth start.

The 3-year-old gelding was poised to get his first victory after posting two thirds and a fourth in his first three tries, and he was sent off at 4-1 in the 5 1/2-furlong race. Alfredo Triana Jr. shot Kat Dude out quickly from the No. 1 post and they settled in third on the rail as the leaders passed the quarter in :22.11. Triana opted to remain glued to the inside and it paid off, with Kat Dude slipping through at the top of the stretch and cruising to the wire two lengths in front in 1:06.44. The victory was worth $9,180.
