In his first seven career races, Purecrazidude was able to muster up just one second and one third. Then the 3-year-old son of First Dude was teamed up with jockey Fanny Olsson and in his last four starts, the gelding is 1-2-0, highlighted by his stylish maiden-breaking victory at Gulfstream Park yesterday.
Leaving from the rail in the one-mile race, Purecrazidude was off second, but his Swedish rider slipped him through on the inside to take the lead down the backstretch. He battled 2-1 shot Blip all the way to the top of the stretch, where he put it into another gear and scooted away from the field to win by 6 1/4 lengths.
Purecrazidude became the 21st winner of 2020 for First Dude and maintained his lead among Florida sires. He paid $13.20 and collected a check for $12,800 for owner/breeder Bella Inizio Farm, as First Dude's progeny earnings jumped to $628,073, less than $4,000 out of first place in that constantly-changing category.
