Led by Do With Pride's victory on the grass at Arlington Park yesterday, First Dude moved to within less than $8,000 from reaching the $18 million mark in career progeny earnings.
With Julio Felix aboard in the starter optional claimer at a mile and one-sixteenth, the 5-year-old gelding broke second from the No. 9 post, stalked the pace-setter all the way down the backstretch, went up to battle for the lead on the turn, and outgunned the field to the wire to win by a head, clocked in 1:46.23.
Do With Pride, a bargain $4,000 OBS August yearling in 2016, raised his earnings to $165,010 on a record of 8-2-5 in 30 starts. He has registered two victories and a second in his last four tries - at three tracks - in a span of just five weeks.
First Dude has three entrants in different races at Gulfstream Park today, needing $7,815 in his quest to reach $18 million.
