Princess Brienne Keeps First Dude On Top of Winners' List
Published: Sunday, February 9, 2020

First Dude became the first Florida stallion to reach 11 winners in 2020 when Princess Brienne broke her maiden at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday in her second start after a layoff of nearly five months. The 3-year-old filly owned and bred by Shade Tree Thoroughbreds had finished third at odds of 24-1 at Gulfstream Park in her first try back in September.

This time, Princess Brienne was sent off as the 2-1 favorite racing six furlongs with Daniel Centeno aboard, and the Tampa veteran shot her out quickly, then eased her back into third on the backstretch while off the rail. Centeno sent her after the lead on the turn, and at the top of the stretch there were four fillies vying for the front, but Princess Brienne proved best in a game run to the wire. She prevailed by a neck 1:12.23, earned a check for $$7,860, and lifted First Dude's progeny earnings to $241,231.
