Profitable Afternoon for First Dude at Mahoning Valley
Published: Saturday, March 30, 2019

Fanciers of First Dude at Mahoning Valley enjoyed a profitable afternoon with a pair of winners, the 16th and 17th this year for the stallion, including one that went from good at the start to much better at the finish.

First came Bella Dudette, a 4-year-old filly gunning for her fourth career victory, who entered the gate at odds of 11-1 with jockey Hector Berrios aboard. She was off last in the 7-horse field racing a flat mile, and as they headed down the backstretch, Bella Dudette's odds jumped to 12-1. On the turn, Berrios let her loose and the Kentucky-bred filly made a monster run along the rail which culminated in a one-half-length victory. Oddly enough, at the exact moment that she hit the finish line, her odds moved again - to 13-1 -  and she wound up paying $28.80. The victory was worth $12,000 and boosted Bella Dudette's total to $76,521.

Six races later, Alex the Dude made it a pair of winners for First Dude with a two-length score racing 5 1/2 furlongs. The 6-year-old gelding bred by Double Diamond Farm was a $32,000 OBS April 2-year-old. He paid $6.80 and raised his record to 10-6-4 in 44 starts with earnings of $111,720.
