Profitable Saturday Pushes First Dude Closer to $1 Million
Published: Sunday, May 12, 2019

Keyed by a runner-up finish in a Gr. III stakes race at Arlington Park, and adding winner No. 30 at Parx Racing, First Dude's progeny earnings for 2019 jumped to within less than $56,000 of reaching the $1 million mark yesterday.

What's Up Dude - at odds of 47-1 - made a strong late run on the outside under Jose Lopez to get up for second in the one-mile, $100,000 Hanshin Cup Stakes in Chicago. The 5-year-old gelding earned a check for $19,000, boosting his career total to $150,159 on a record of 4-5-2 in 21 starts.

Winner No. 30 was Kairos, a 3-year-old gelding bred by David Dizney who broke his maiden at Parx, also being sent off at a huge price and racing a flat mile. With Pedro Requeria in the irons, Kairos sat sixth for half a mile before making a powerful run on the outside and getting up at the wire to score by one-half length. He paid $47.80 and collected a check for $14,400.

First Dude's earnings for the season ballooned to $944,103, as he remained in second place on Florida's leading sire list.
