Starship Apollo Wins 12th Career Race
Published: Saturday, July 27, 2019

First Dude edged closer to the $2 million mark in progeny earnings for the year yesterday when Starship Apollo prevailed in a driving finish in a seven-furlong race at Gulfstream Park.

The often-claimed 6-year-old from his sire's first crop raised his record to 12-4-5 in 42 starts and the $13,600 winner's check boosted his earnings to $171,555. He has joined the growing group bidding to become First Dude's 13th $200,000 earner, and helped lift the stallion's 2019 earnings to $1,972,069.

With Edgard Zayas aboard, Starship Apollo stalked the early leaders in fourth place, moved wide for the drive, then proved best after a four-horse battle to the wire, getting up by one-half length while clocked in an excellent 1:24.72. It was the third victory in six starts this year for the gelding bred by former FTBOA president Leverett Miller and his wife, Linda. His 12 victories are most for any of First Dude's runners.
