Sun Shines On Sunset Paula Jo at Keeneland
Published: Thursday, October 17, 2019

Most of the country's race tracks remained in hibernation yesterday, but First Dude still was able to add another winner to his ledger - his fifth in the past three days.

Racing seven furlongs at Keeneland with veteran John McKee aboard, Sunset Paula Jo tracked the leader in second place down the backstretch, went after her on the turn, took the lead entering the stretch and was going away at the finish, scoring by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:23.70.

After her final race as a 3-year-old in December of last year,  the 4-year-old filly didn't get back in action for seven months and has won two of three since her return. Her career record jumped to 5-0-3 in 15 starts, and the $20,400 check raised her earnings to $83,612, a healthy return for a $1,200 OBS August yearling. Her five victories have come at Belterra Park, Thistledown, Mahoning Valley, Mountaineer and now Keeneland.
