Third Start Is the Charm for Debbie's Passion
Published: Monday, September 30, 2019

Despite not having raced since he finished a good fourth in his second career start in the OBS Sophomore Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on March 31, Debbie's Passion was loaded for bear in his Monmouth Park return yesterday.

With Hector Diaz aboard in the six-furlong maiden special, the 3-year-old son of First Dude was bumped leaving the gate, but he quickly recovered and rushed up to a tracking position in fourth place down the backstretch. When Diaz asked him to run on the turn, Debbie's Passion responded in a big way. He split horses at the top of the stretch, took on pacesetter Gallant Plunger down the lane, and out-gamed the 7/10 favorite to the wire to win by more than a length.

In becoming First Dude's 63rd winner of 2019, Debbie's Passion earned a check of $27,000 for owner/breeder Raymond Mamone and raised his total for three races to $32,200. He had picked up $5,000 in his first Tampa race as a maiden when he missed third place by a neck.
