Three First Dude Runners On the Verge of $200,000 Mark
Published: Saturday, December 28, 2019

First Dude currently has 12 runners who have passed the $200,000 mark in career earnings, but it won't be too long before that number jumps to 15

Gray Dude is sitting at $199,957 and he'll become No. 13 tomorrow at Gulfstream Park, just by leaving the starting gate in what will be his 35th career start.

Starship Apollo moved into position to be added to the list after a wire-to-wire performance in the fourth race at Gulfstream Park yesterday. The 6-year-old gelding raised his earnings to $198,955 on a record of 13-6-5 in 47 starts as Jose Ortiz guided him to a 3 3/4-length score, clocked in 1:10.15 for the six furlongs. It was the fourth victory of 2019 for the gelding bred by Leverett and Linda Miller, who was a $27,000 OBS Winter Mixed yearling in 2014. His 47 starts have all come in South Florida, 38 at Gulfstream (with 10 victories) and nine at Gulfstream West (with 3 victories). He earned $15,400 for his latest score.

First Dude had a second winner yesterday via a 3-year-old filly who could become a $200,000 earner somewhere down the road. Rogue Too won her third in a row, second at Turfway Park, with as game a performance as a horse could muster up. With Rogelio Miranda aboard for the second time, Rogue Too was cruising along with a three or four-length lead for much of the one-mile race until she was confronted by 7-1 shot Arch Avenue on the final turn. Heading down the stretch, Arch Avenue put her head in front, but Rogue Too never gave up and battled back to win it by a neck. After paying $93.40 for her previous victory, this time she rewarded the faithful with a payoff of $18.80.

Rogue Too, who seems to thrive on lots of racing, had won three in a row at Turfway in January and February; she now sports a record of 7-4-2 in 25 starts with earnings of $105,245.

One other filly who can hit the $200,000 mark in short order is the 3-year-old Ready to Runaway (8-5-2-1, $193,830).
