After Long Layoff, Triumphant Return for First Dudette
Published: Sunday, May 19, 2019

One year and six days after finishing third in the $105,725 Angels Flight Stakes at Santa Anita, First Dudette made her return to the races at Golden Gate Fields yesterday and completed a five-victory day for jockey Abel Cedillo.

Competing in an allowance optional claimer at six furlongs, the 4-year-old filly took the lead shortly after the break while racing in the two path, and continued there around the turn and into the stretch while being shadowed on the inside by Vronilla Parfait. She then drew off in the final sixteenth to win by 1 1/2 lengths (clocked in 1:10.09) as announcer Matt Dinerman bellowed, "First Dudette is too classy." Both fillies went off at 2-1, although First Dudette was the slight favorite despite her long layoff.

Lightly-raced First Dudette raised her record to 3-2-1 in seven starts, and the $19,200 winner's check increased her earnings to $101,025. She became First Dude's 36th winner this year and gave him seven winners over the past eight days.
