Valiant Virtue Is First Dude's Initial 2019 2-Year-Old Winner
Published: Friday, July 12, 2019

After finishing third in his first two starts, Valiant Virtue became First Dude's first 2-year-old winner of 2019 yesterday with a game victory in the second race at Gulfstream Park. The colt owned and bred by Edward R. Schuster shot to the lead in the 5 1/2-furlong test under Cristian Torres and raced on the rail with two rivals to his outside all the way to the turn. He then drew off heading into the lane and prevailed by nearly four lengths. Valiant Virtue paid $22.40 for his maiden score, earned a check for $25,400, and became winner No. 53 for his sire this year.

Previously, Marcelino made it to the winner's circle in the first race via a game effort at 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass. The 3-year-old gelding raced in the two path from the outset under Samy Camacho, edged to the lead in the stretch and held on by one-half length in :56.65. It was his second victory in a row, and he has been in the top three in six of his last eight starts. He collected $12,600 for his third victory in 12 tries, and boosted his total to $53,410.

The all-First Dude daily double returned $124.20.
