When Ragatagtag won, First Dude Had Already Topped $16 Million
Published: Sunday, November 24, 2019

By the time Ragatagtag went to the post at Hawthorne Race Course at 4:19 Saturday afternoon, First Dude had already surpassed the $16 million mark in career progeny earnings, most of it due to earlier second-place finishes by Fast Dude and Much About It at Gulfstream West. First Dude was just $159 short of the magic figure at the beginning of the day, and the runner-up checks of Fast Dude ($3,550) and Much About It ($3,800) were more than enough to do the job.

So Ragatagtag merely added to the haul when she won her second in a row in Chicago after three straight seconds, collecting a check for $14,400. The 3-year-old filly bred by Adam and Suzette Parker at T-Square Stud scored by three-quarters of a length over stablemate Kim Dandy, who was the 6/5 favorite in the 6 1/2-furlong allowance optional claimer.

With Jose Lopez riding, Ragatagtag sat third early, moved up to second on the turn, then sprinted into the lead in mid-stretch before holding off her stablemate at the wire. Unraced as a 2-year-old, Ragatagtag is now 3-3-2 in 12 starts at three with earnings of $67,415, and First Dude's total has reached $16,021,971.
