A grandson of Storm Cat,
American Spirit is a graded stakes winning sprinter, who won or placed
in ten black-type events and was a graded stakes performer on both dirt
and turf.
American Spirit is sire of the stakes winning Ablaze With Spirit out of a mare by Wekiva Springs, a son of Runaway Groom, from the Blushing Groom line. This suggests trying mares by Runaway Groom sons Cherokee Run (sire Yonaguska and Kafwain), and Najran, and other Blushing Groom line sires such as Mt. Livermore (sire of Orientate, Housebuster and Peaks and Valleys), Rahy (broodmare sire of a Storm Boot graded stakes winner), Candy Stripes, Arazi, and Blushing John (broodmare sire of a Storm Boot graded stakes winner).
American Spirit is by Storm Boot, one of Storm Cat’s most prolific stallion sons. Storm Boot was out of a mare by Mr. Prospector, but did well when crossed back over mares from that sire line, getting a grade one winner out of a mare by Coronado’s Quest (by Forty Niner, also sire of Distorted Humor, Roar, End Swee), and stakes winners out of mares by Rubiano (by Fappiano, who can be brought in through such as Unbridled, Unbridled’s Song, Cahill Road, Pentelicus, Quiet American, Cryptoclearance, and Grindstone), Miswaki, Regal Search, Miner’s Mark, Marquetry (by Conquistador Cielo), Kingmambo, and Mining. Other branches of Mr. Prospector that have done well under Storm Cat include Afleet (sire of Northern Afleet), Crafty Prospector, Seeking the Gold (sire of Mutakddim, Petionville, and Cape Town), Smart Strike, Thunder Gulch, Two Punch (sire of Smoke Glacken) and Woodman.
Mr. Prospector is a genetic relative to Alydar (broodmare sire of two Storm Boot stakes winners), another son of Raise a Native, American Spirit is sire stakes placed Hellen’s Choice out of a mare by Wheaton, a son of Alydar. This strain could also be brought in through Saratoga Six (broodmare sire of two Storm Boot stakes winners), Turkoman, Criminal Type, Alysheba, Easy Goer and Jeblar. There are also Storm Boot stakes winners out of mares descending from Raise a Native through Exclusive Native (out of mares by Premiership, Valdez and Our Native) and Raise a Cup.
From the Seattle Slew line, Storm Boot sired a multiple stakes winner out of a mare by Seattle Song, and other branches of Seattle Slew that have enjoyed success under Storm Cat include A.P. Indy, Capote (sire of Boston Harbor), Doneraile Court, and Gold Legend. Seattle Slew is a Boldnesian line horse, and the Bold Ruckus branch has also worked well under Storm Cat, including providing a stakes winner by Storm Boot.
Storm Boot’s pedigree background should do well with Damascus, and from this line, Storm Boot has two graded winners out of mares by Timeless Moment (sire of Gilded Time). Damascus might also be introduced through Ogygian, Crusader Sword, Time For A Change, Skip Trial (sire of Skip Away), and Private Account (sire of Private Terms, Valley Crossing, Corporate Report, Secret Hello, and Unaccounted For; grandsire of Afternoon Deelites).
From Hail to Reason line mares, Storm Boot sired stakes winners out of daughters of Cure the Blues (very good under Storm Cat, and sire of American Chance), and Sunshine Forever, a three-parts-brother to Dynaformer, and sire of Roberto, who could also be brought in through Kris S., Red Ransom and Silver Hawk. There are also Storm Boot stakes winners out of mares by Meadowlake, In Excess (sire of Indian Charlie), Relaunch (who can be found through Honour and Glory, Put It Back, Bertrando, Officer, Tiznow, Skywalker, Slew Gin Fizz, and Waquoit), and Broad Brush. Mares by Nijinsky II line stallions might also work here, with Sword Dance being particularly interesting.
