Wekiva Springs is a multiple
grade one winning grandson of Blushing Groom, who has sired 15 stakes
winners, and 25 stakes performers.
Wekiva Springs has sired stakes winners out of mares descending from Northern Dancer through Staff Writer, Silver Deputy, and Topsider, and a stakes placed horse out of a mare by Strawberry Road. Silver Deputy is by Deputy Minister, who might also be brought in through Awesome Again, Touch Gold, Dehere, French Deputy, Salt Lake, Deputy Commander, Forest Camp, Posse and Graeme Hall. Topsider is bred on similar lines to Nureyev (sire of Theatrical, Atticus, Stravinsky, and Alwuhush), Strawberry Road is a grandson of Nijinsky II, a strain that has done particularly well under Blushing Groom, and might be introduced through Royal Academy, Sky Classic, Seattle Dancer, Sword Dance, Fred Astaire, Green Dancer, Greinton, Shadeed, and Alydeed. Wekiva Spring’s sire, Runaway Groom, and his sons have also enjoyed success with mares descending from Northern Dancer through Danzig (including Belong to Me), El Gran Senor, and Storm Cat (including Tale of the Cat).
Out of mares from the Mr. Prospector line, Wekiva Springs has sired a stakes winner out of a mare by Crafty Prospector, and stakes placed horses out of mares by Black Tie Affair (by Miskwaki), Conquistador Cielo (sire of Marquetry), and Pioneering. Other Mr. Prospector strains proven under Runaway Groom line stallions include Seeking the Gold (sire of Petionville, Mutakddim, and Cape Town), Woodman, Carson City (including Lord Carson), Fortunate Prospect, Pentelicus, Unbridled’s Song, Silver Ghost, Two Punch, and Grindstone (sire of Birdstone).
Wekiva Springs has a multiple stakes winner out of a mare by Judge Smells, a stakes winner out of a mare by Sunny Clime, and a stakes placed horse out of a mare by Court Trial, all from the In Reality line. He should also do well with mares descending from In Reality through Court Trial’s brother, Valid Appeal (sire of Successful Appeal, Valid Wager, Valid Expectations, World Appeal and Mighty Appealing). There is also a stakes winner by a Runaway Groom line stallion out of mare by In Reality, son Known Fact.
From the Bold Ruler line, Wekiva Springs is sire of a stakes winner out of a mare by Well Decorated (by Raja Baba), and a stakes winner out of a mare by Exuberant (by What a Pleasure). Well Decorated is sire of Notebook and Formal Dinner. The What a Pleasure line might also be available through Farma Way, Marfa, and Maudlin. There are also graded stakes winners from the Runaway Groom line out of mares descending from the Seattle Slew branch of Bold Ruler, via Capote and A.P. Indy.
From the Ribot line Wekiva Springs has stakes winners out of mares by Country Pine (by His Majesty), Alleged (by Hoist the Flag), and Lord Rebeau (by Maribeau).
These strains are not likely to be found in the male-line of many
mares, but are worth introducing elsewhere in the pedigree if possible.
There is also a stakes winner by Wekiva Springs out of a mare by Green Forest (by Shecky Greene). The strain of T. V. Lark (in the male line of the dam of a Wekiva Springs stakes winner through It’s Freezing) seems beneficial, and Meadowlake is another horse who should be good here.
