Joint Effort Dominates in the Sunshine Millions Distaff

The $500,000 Distaff presented by Warren’s Thoroughbreds, was taken by Donald Dizney’s homebred Joint Effort, a repeat Sunshine Millions winner. Victorious in last year’s Sunshine Millions Oaks at Gulfstream Park, Joint Effort shipped west this year and made it look easy, defeating Florida Champion Take D’Tour and Cal-bred Getback Time in the 1 1/16- mile test. She covered the distance in 1:43.36.

Joint Effort raced in midpack early, unleashed a strong rally heading into the far turn and carried that momentum straight to the front of the field in the stretch. She crossed the wire pulling away from pacesetter and race favorite Take D’Tour, Florida’s Champion Older Female of 2006.

Dogwood Breeders' Cup S. G3  $150,000

Joint Effort scores at Churchill

Joint Effort raced just off the pace while always in ideal striking position in the one-mile Dogwood, and when jockey Rene Douglas asked her at the quarter pole to overtake front-running Coronado's Vision and Joyful Rhapsody, the filly sped away to a one-length victory over Ready to Please. Victorina was just a head back in third in a field of nine 3-year-old fillies.

Joint Effort returned $5.40 to win as the slight favorite over Ready to Please after finishing in 1:35.49 over a fast track.

Douglas told Romans his mount won more comfortably than the final margin suggested. "It was a perfect race," said Romans. "Rene said once she got in front, she had everything under control."

Joint Effort wins the La Troienne Stakes

3-year-old filly sprinters competed in the $100,000-added La Troienne (G3) at 7 1/2 furlongs on the main track. 7-1 shot Joint Effort stalked the early pace of Morner down the backstretch, and then found a hole on the inside at the top of the stretch to shoot through to win going away under jockey Edgar Prado. The margin of victory was 3 1/4 lengths over 8-5 favorite Adieu, completing the distance in 1:28.18 over a fast track.

 Oak Leaf Stakes Grade 2

Diamond Omi turns back Wild Fit,
takes Oak Leaf Stakes

Emerging a winner in her stakes debut, Diamond Omi held off Wild Fit's stretch challenge to win the $200,000 Oak Leaf Stakes (G2) by three-quarters of a length at Santa Anita Park on Saturday. Diamond Omi took advantage of a ground saving trip to earn her most lucrative victory in the 1 1/16-mile race. In her fourth career start, Diamond Omi seized command in the stretch and handed Wild Fit her first career loss while winning in 1:45.57 on a fast track.

Golden Silk finished third, 4 1/2 lengths behind Wild Fit. Wild Fit and Diamond Omi battled for second while settling behind the early pace set by Golden Silk. From the start of the race for two-year-old fillies, jockey David Flores positioned Diamond Omi inside of Wild Fit.

Diamond Omi drove past Golden Silk to open a half-length lead in early stretch, where Wild Fit took over second after unleashing a three-wide bid in the final turn. Diamond Omi then held on gamely to turn back Wild Fit, the 1-to-2 favorite in a field of seven who won the Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1) at Del Mar on August 27.

Diamond Omi rallied after dropping back to third, 11/2 lengths behind Golden Silk, a half-mile into the race. Golden Silk faded to third after building a one-length lead.

Bob Baffert trains Diamond Omi, a chestnut filly owned by Donald Dizney who earned her first career win on September 7.
