El Potro Posts 8th Victory, All On the Lead
Published: Sunday, August 16, 2020

El Potro's last race of 2019 came at Parx Racing in November, then the 6-year-old gelding was off for nearly seven months before returning at Delaware Park in June and finishing third.

The son of First Dude's second try was at Monmouth Park yesterday and he came in with a unique background; all seven of his previous victories were basically accomplished the same way - wire-to-wire. A look at his past performance lines shows that in one winning race he was second by one-half length at the first quarter, but at every other pole in every winning race there is a "1."

El Potro kept the streak alive in his second start of 2020, shooting to the lead with Carlos Hernandez, posting a :22.81 fraction at the quarter and never looking back. He had 3 1/2 lengths in mid-stretch and wound up winning by 2 3/4 in 1:11.96. He paid a surprising $19 considering that in his June return he finished third in a race with a clocking less than one second off the track record. King Dude of Ocala, another son of First Dude, finished third in the race at odds of 61-1.

El Potro now sports a record of 8-3-3 in 41 starts, and the $12,600 winner's share boosted his earnings to $122,602. He became First Dude's 45th winner this year, two better than leading sire Khozan.
