Roan Mountain Scores at Parx, First Dude Passes $18 Million
Published: Tuesday, September 22, 2020

A ton of late money showed up in the third race at Parx yesterday, knocking Roan Mountain down to 4/5 on the tote board, and the son of First Dude more than lived up to expectations. As opposed to when he broke his maiden for owner/breeder Double Diamond Farm in February at Gulfstream Park and paid $28.60, his second victory was worth $3.80 to his backers.

With Dexter Haddock aboard in the race at one mile and 70 yards, the 3-year-old gelding broke fourth from the No. 5 post, moved up to third down the backstretch, and shot into the lead on the final turn when Haddock sent him three wide. It was no contest in the stretch as Roan Mountain extended his margin to five lengths at the wire

Roan Mountain earned a check for $12,600 for current owners Pamela Landis and Albert Ciardi Jr. and lifted First Dude's lifetime progeny earnings to $18,012,223.
