Double Diamond-bred Ohtani Wins a Long Way From His Roots
Published: Tuesday, August 18, 2020

Ohtani left the Double Diamond barn after posting a series of third and fourth-place finishes at all the Southern California tracks. He's been racing at other venues out west ever since and yesterday he won for the fourth time, this one at Assiniboia Downs in Canada.

With Wilmer Galviz aboard, the 4-year-old gelding was off fourth in a seven-furlong race, tracked just behind the leaders down the backstretch, took the lead after a half-mile, then opened up late to win by three lengths in 1:27.40. The "horse of steel" is now 4-1-5 in 25 starts, and has made 13 of them this year after competing 11 times in 2019.
