Enduros Tigress Scores at $23.60 After Huge Odds Drop
Published: Sunday, April 26, 2020

When Enduros Tigress won the second race at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday, two things were immediately apparent. One, First Dude became the first Florida stallion to get five repeat winners in 2020, and two, somebody somewhere made a significant score in the wagering department.

As the 4-year-old filly was led up to the gate in the 6 1/2-furlong race, she was sitting at 27-1 on the tote board. Just 1:20.27 later, she crossed the finish line 2 3/4 lengths in front and the odds board read 11-1. Who made this bet is anybody's guess and where it was initiated only the tote company that handled it knows. The other winning players know that Enduros Tigress paid $23.60, a juicy price, but not close to the $56 they might have received.

Tomas Mejia got Enduros Tigress off fifth down the backstretch, about five lengths off the leaders, then sent her after the first four coming to the turn. She inhaled the quartet as they straightened out for home, and as she passed the eighth pole it was all over.

With purses down at every track, Enduros Tigress collected just $6,000 for her fourth career victory, and her earnings jumped to $58,666. At the same time, First Dude moved to within less than $6,000 of reaching $17 million in lifetime progeny earnings.
