First Dude Gets Winner No. 57, Closes in on $2 Million
Published: Sunday, November 1, 2020

First Dude had just one runner in the entries yesterday, and Debonnaire Dude broke his maiden in style at Hawthorne to edge his sire a little closer to the $2 million mark in progeny earnings for 2020

The 3-year-old gelding bred by Lynne and Chris Boutte had Francisco Arrieta aboard and was primed for his first career victory after having finished second and third in his previous two races. Arrieta placed Debonnaire Dude right behind the pacesetters heading down the backstretch in the race at a mile and 70 yards, and they made a strong move on the turn. Debonnaire Dude took the lead entering the stretch, then held off 4/5 favorite Izzy in a Tizzy in the run to the wire, scoring by 1 1/4 lengths.

Debonnaire Dude became winner No. 57 for First Dude this year, and pretty much put a lock on his position as Florida's leader in that department, seven winners ahead of Brethren and eight ahead of Khozan. First Dude is less than $56,000 from reaching $2 million in progeny earnings for the fifth straight year.
