First Dude's Latest Spree: 5 Winners in 6 Days
Published: Thursday, April 11, 2019

When J's Flashy Halo won the seventh race at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday, he became the fifth winner for First Dude in the last six days. The 4-year-old gelding owned and bred by Janis Maitlen followed Hat in the Ring, who scored at Turf Paradise the day before. The five winners have come at five different tracks.

J's Flashy Halo had finished 2-3-2 in his previous three starts and was bet down to 4/5 for this six-furlong test. With Ronnie Allen Jr. aboard, he sat close to the pace set by Seattle Council, then blew by the 76-1 shot and exploded down the stretch, winning by 8 1/4 lengths which might have been 15 if the race had been a little longer.

Hat in the Ring battled for the lead every step of the way in a mile run in Arizona and gamely prevailed by a neck. The duo became the 22nd and 23rd winners for First Dude since Jan. 1.
