For First Dude Filly: Another Runaway Performance in Near-Record Time
Published: Thursday, June 18, 2020

Ready to Runaway continued to run away with the unofficial title of 'Queen of Canterbury Park's Filly Contingent,' winning the $50,000 Lady's Slipper Stakes yesterday with a near-record performance.

The 4-year-old daughter of First Dude is now 4-for-4 in Canterbury stakes efforts, and the $30,000 check lifted her lifetime total to $241,430. That's ninth best among her sire's runners and lifted First Dude's progeny earnings for 2020 over $900,000. A rare First Dude Minnesota-bred, she sold for a bargain $4,000 out of breeder Wildcat Ranch's consignment at the Minnesota August Yearling Sale in 2017. She has proceeded to register a perfect in-the-money mark of 6-3-3 in 12 starts.

With Alex Canchari aboard, Ready to Runaway broke sharply from her No. 4 post and quickly engaged Ari Gia down the backstretch. Coming to the turn, she cruised past the pacesetter after a half in :44.39 and widened her lead as she coasted down the lane. The final margin was 3 3/4 lengths, and the time of 1:09.71 was just three-hundredths off the six-furlong stakes record of 1:09.68.

In becoming First Dude's Florida-leading 32nd winner this year, Ready to Runaway received a 97 'E' rating from Equibase, and has now posted six consecutive ratings between 91 and 100.
