Gulfstream Program Spotlights Double Diamond Stallions
Published: Saturday, February 27, 2021

Double Diamond Farm's stallions accounted for two of the most eye-catching performances at Gulfstream Park yesterday by a pair of highly-promising 3-year-old fillies.

Ray Arewethereyet opened the program with a sharp score at 5 1/2 furlongs under Jose Ortiz in just her second start. The filly owned and bred by Raymond Mamone slipped through on the rail to take the lead before the quarter, which went in :22.40, fought off two minor challenges on the turn, then drew off to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:04.36, just two seconds off the track record. Based on her first start, in which she finished second by a neck, she paid $4.40, and earned a check for $24,000, raising her two-race total to $32,800.

In the day's final race, Donald Dizney's Running Memories closely mirrored the previous score, going wire-to-wire at five furlongs on the grass and prevailing by 2 1/2 lengths. The daughter of Bahamian Squall, purchased by Mr. Dizney at the 2020 OBS Open sale in July for $20,000, earned a check for $17,800 in her career debut under Victor Lebron, and was clocked in a quick :56.21. She became the sixth winner for Bahamian Squall, paid a generous $23.60, and earned a well-deserved breeder's award for Courtney Meagher.
