Our Lizzy Lou Emulates Silky Sullivan
Published: Thursday, April 2, 2020

Our Lizzy Lou produced her personal version of Silky Sullivan at Oklahoma's Will Roger Downs yesterday, coming from out of the clouds to break her maiden in her seventh start.

In the 1950's, Silky became the poster child for horses seemingly so far behind in the early going they had no chance of  winning, including coming from 27 lengths out of it to win the 1957 Golden Gate Futurity, and from 28 lengths behind to capture the 1958 Santa Anita Derby. Our Lizzy Lou was 'only' 15 lengths out of it going down the backstretch yesterday and just about out of camera range, but racing just six furlongs, it appeared she was in the 'no chance' category.

Lane Luzzi first moved the 3-year-old First Dude filly from 10th to ninth, then slipped her through on the inside to begin overtaking several rivals, and swung her wide on the turn. From there, Our Lizzy Lou did the rest, cruising past the leaders in overdrive, and drawing off to score by nearly three lengths, paying $10.60.

Bred by Donald Dizney LLC, Out Lizzy Lou became First Dude's 24th winner of 2020, good for a lead of seven among Florida stallions, and he retained his lead in the money category by about $6,500. He's less than $68,000 away from reaching the $17 million mark in career earnings.
