Sharp Second for Bahamian Girl in Susan's Girl
Published: Sunday, September 1, 2019

Bahamian Girl turned in her best stakes effort yet in her third try at Gulfstream, posting a sharp runner-up performance in the $200,000 Susan's Girl, second filly leg of the Florida Stallion series. The daughter of Bahamian Squall had previously finished fourth in the first leg of the series, the Desert Vixen, then was third in the Golden Isles.

With Luca Panici aboard the 25-1 shot, Bahamian Girl was off third in the seven-furlong race, and remained there until the turn, where Panici swung her three wide and went after the two pacesetters. She surged into the lead about a sixteenth of a mile from home but was unable to withstand a powerful late run by Ceci Valentina, who went by to score by 1 1/2 lengths.

The filly bred by McKathan Brothers earned $40,000 for second, lifting her total to $102,350, second best among all runners by Florida freshman sires.
