Super Dude On the Verge of $300,000
Published: Sunday, August 23, 2020

First Dude currently has eight runners who have passed the $300,000 mark in career earnings, and two more are about to reach that milestone. One is Ready to Runaway, who won her fifth stakes at Canterbury Park earlier this week and is just $20 away from attaining her goal, the other is Super Dude, who scored a game victory in a mile and one-eighth race at Saratoga yesterday.

With leading rider Irad Ortiz aboard, Super Dude stalked the early pace for the first quarter, then went up and vied for the lead for another half-mile. He surged to the front on the turn, then held off three late runners for the entire length of the stretch to win by three-quarters.

The 6-year-old often-claimed gelding paid $3.90 as favorite and collected a check for $22,000, increasing his career total to $298,515 on a record of 7-4-4 in 23 starts - and he was claimed again.

With 15 winners between Aug. 2 and 22nd, First dude has distanced himself from Brethren in the battle for second place on Florida's leading sire list with earnings of $1,457,925.
