Petulant Delight is First Dude’s answer to the Energizer Bunny: he just keeps going and going. Just when it appeared as though the 10-year-old gelding was ready to call it a career (he was on an 11-race losing streak), he pops up at Parx Racing to win a 7-furlong race – and pays $39.
With Melvis Gonzalez in the irons, Petulant Delight broke well and raced down the backstretch three wide, about five lengths off the pace. Gonzalez sent him up for a wide run on the turn and the old man bred by Ocala Stud Farm responded by taking the lead into the stretch and holding off three rivals late to score by half a length, clocked in 1:25.97. The victory was worth $10,800 and raised his career total to $285,159 on a record of 15-11-5 in 73 starts. He’s in 20th place on his sire’s $200,000 list.
