Michaela Upsets Even-Money Favorite to Break Her Maiden at Monmouth Park

It took 12 tries, but Michaela put it all together and broke her maiden in number 13 at the direct expense of even-money favorite Park Avenue Betty in a race at one mile on the grass at Monmouth Park.
With Sonny Leon aboard, the 3-year-old First Dude filly bred by Lavendar Hill Stud came out running and was glued to the favorite down the backstretch, on the turn and into the lane. But Michaela was up to the task and put away Park Avenue Betty in deep stretch, then went on to score by two lengths, clocked in 1:38.21. She paid $20.40 and collected a check for $10,500.
