Bahamian Squall’s latest two winners are Plum Irish, who survived a heated pace racing five furlongs over the Tapeta surface at Gulfstream Park, and Troops, who cruised to his second victory going six furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs.
PLUM IRISH – With Miguel Vasquez aboard, the 3-year-old filly bred by Ocala dentist Rod Lundock engaged the leaders in :21.50 and :45.45, then proved best at the wire by half a length in :58.39. She paid $5.20 and earned a check for $14,550, raising her total to $51,510 on a record of 2-2-1 in five starts.
TROOPS – Pablo Morales had the 3-year-old gelding sitting in fifth place while wide down the backstretch, and when he let him run, Troops looped the field and went on to win a 5-way battle to the wire. He was clocked in 1:10.35 and paid $10.20. The check for $13,492 for his second victory boosted his total to $45,452.
