It took jockey Paul Luna two trips aboard First Officer to get acquainted with the 2-year-old gelding, and in their third race at Laurel he guided the son of First Dude to a wire-to-wire maiden victory going 1 1/16 miles.

Luna set a leisurely pace with the $5,000 OBS October yearling and he was never threatened during the running, but was all out at the finish, holding on to win by half a length. First Officer became First Dude’s 24th winner of 2025 and paid a healthy $22 to win, while earning a check for $14,400.
