Nina’s Last Gift was scheduled to race 7 1/2 furlongs in a $54,000 allowance optional claiming race over Gulfstream’s turf course with Miguel Vasquez in the saddle, but the race was taken off the grass and switched to one mile and 70 yards over the Tapeta surface.
It didn’t matter to the 5-year-old First Dude mare, and she went wire -to-wire for breeder/trainer Max Ubide, winning by1 1/2 lengths in 1:40.51. After posting three straight seconds, Nina’s Last Gift was sent off at 6/5 and paid $4.40, while earning a check for $32,400. That raised her career total to $96,265 on a record of 2-3-1 in 10 starts.
