Fivefive Six Champ Goes Wire-to-Wire for Win No. 15

When First Dude’s $200,000 club first appeared here several years ago, there were 17 original entrants. Now there are 34, and when Fivefive Six Champ gets another check of just over $5,000, there will be 20 who have reached the $300,000 mark.

Fivefive Six Champ made it two victories in a row and three of his last five, along with a second, going wire-to-wire under Brandon Tapara in a six-furlong test at Mahoning Valley. The 7-year-old gelding, a $165,000 OBS March 2-year-old bred by Tom McCrocklin, paid a generous $11.60 after completing the trip in 1:11.54 and winning by 2 1/2 lengths. It marked his 15th career victory to go along with seven seconds and four thirds in 47 starts.

The check for $16,200 upped Fivefive Six Champ’s lifetime progeny earnings to $294,919. So far this year he’s 2-1-0 in four tries with earnings of $37,123.
