When First Dude’s $200,000 club list was first compiled, there were 17 entrants. It has continued to grow ever since, and red-hot Impacto has become the 32nd entry, moving onto the list as No. 30.

    The 6-year-old gelding bred by Jose Manuel Contreras scored in near-record time in a six-furlong, $54,000 allowance optional claimer at Tampa Bay Downs. With Ademar Santos aboard, Impacto settled into mid-pack – three wide – on the backstretch, made a strong move on the turn for home, and proved best in the final sixteenth, winning by 1 1/4 lengths. 

    It was Impacto’s second straight victory and fourth in his last five starts. He paid $9.40, and his clocking of 1:09.31 is just three-fifths of a second off the track record of 1:08.67, and he received an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 102. The check for $34,750 ballooned his earnings to $205,151 on a record of 10-2-3 in 21 starts, with $105,015 coming this year.
